New Danish road tax is valid from as of January 1st, 2025
As we have previously reported, the Danish authorities have announced that, as part of a green transition of road transport, a Danish road tax will be introduced with effect as of January 1st, 2025.
Initially, trucks of 12 tons and above will have to pay a tax when driving on Danish roads. We have noted that the intention is that trucks of 3.5 tons and above will also be covered from 2027. Also, the roads where tolls will be payable will be expanded.
The rate is based on how much CO2 the truck emits, the trucks technically permitted total weight, and whether the truck drives in emission zones where the tax is significantly increased.
Currently, emission zones have been defined for Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen. It is assumed that the vast majority of trucks currently on the Danish road network run on diesel and are assigned to the most expensive emission class.
This Danish road tax has a significant impact on our transportation costs, and we are forced to pass this tax on to our customers.
We have calculated the effect on our transportation costs. Below is a table with the Danish road tax surcharge, partly for national transports in Denmark as well as our transports with the Nordic countries and the Continent.
