E-Charge
The electrification of heavy long-distance transport is a complex issue, and DB Schenker has therefore chosen to participate in the E-Charge project, which develops, tests, and demonstrates battery-electric long-distance truck transport. This is one of the many exciting projects that we at Schenker Consulting are involved in and managing.
E-Charge is a project where 14 leading partners from vehicle manufacturing, academia, logistics, and fuel suppliers collaborate to accelerate development. The project runs from 2021 to 2025. The technology is being developed by Volvo, Scania, and ABB, and will be deployed at public charging stations at Circle K and OKQ8. Charging will also take place at lower power levels in terminals where goods are loaded and unloaded. DB Schenker, ICA, and Tommy Nordbergh are the logistics operators who will operate the vehicles in their respective flows during the system demonstration.
DB Schenker is participating in the project to test and gain experience with fully electric heavy vehicles in long-distance linehaul operations. The pilot started in the summer of 2024 and is expected to run until the summer of 2025. During this period, DB Schenker will operate a fully electric heavy vehicle from Scania Group in regular linehaul traffic.
Electrification plays a crucial role in our transition to freedom from fossil fuels, as electric vehicles enable completely emission-free transport. "Now we can finally test electrified heavy vehicles in our daily operations and electrify the entire transport chain," says Anna Hagberg, Head of Network & Linehaul at DB Schenker.
