DB Schenker and Jasico Express Services join hands to launch Singapore's first fully electric heavy goods vehicle for logistics

Reducing carbon footprint with electric vehicle • Towards an all-electric delivery fleet • Strong partnership with a local trucking company to drive innovative solutions for sustainable logistics

DB Schenker Singapore has partnered with Jasico Express Services to launch the first fully electric heavy goods vehicle for the logistics sector in Singapore. This innovative initiative is another significant milestone in line with the company’s sustainability strategy to shift towards a fully electric fleet and ultimately achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

The partnership between DB Schenker and Jasico Express Services underscores not only the commitment to sustainability but also the team-ups between Multinational Corporations (MNCs) and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore. DB Schenker Singapore has been at the forefront of uplifting Singapore’s logistics ecosystem by partnering with local businesses to provide seamless logistics solutions.

The latest addition to the fleet, Scania’s fully electric 25-foot truck, boasts an exceptional range of up to 210km on a single charge, which is equivalent to covering the horizontal length of the island three times over. It has nine lithium-ion batteries with a total installed capacity of 300 kW, capable of peak propulsion of approximately 295 kW and 2,200 Nm, as well as continuous propulsion of about 230 kW and 1300 Nm. The truck can be charged through a direct current using the European-standard CCS type 2 plug-in connection at a maximum rate of 130 kW/ 200 A.

The vehicle bought by Jasico Express Services will be commercially put into operation under DB Schenker Singapore for heavy cargo transportation. The collaboration with Jasico Express Services is in line with DB Schenker’s global sustainability approach, including the Deutsche Bahn Climate Neutral Target 2040. To reach this ambitious goal, the use of electric vehicles is an essential step toward reducing carbon emissions in the logistics industry. The new truck on top of DB Schenker Singapore’s existing fleet of EV vans used for last-mile deliveries will pave a significant step toward a cleaner climate and support customers in achieving their environmental targets.

While DB Schenker aims to transition to an all-electric delivery fleet in Europe by 2030, it is equally committed to supporting Singapore's goal to have all commercial vehicles run on cleaner energy by 2040. As part of this initiative, the company has plans to add more electric vehicles to its fleet in Singapore with one more electric truck coming as soon as Q3 2023.

Catherine Soo, CEO of Singapore & Malaysia Cluster, DB Schenker: “We are thrilled to partner with Jasico Express Services to introduce Singapore’s first fully electric heavy goods vehicle for the logistics industry. This innovative step is a testament to our commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040 and to providing innovative transport solutions for our customers. Our partnerships with SMEs have been a crucial aspect of our business and we will continue to work closely with local enterprises to uplift Singapore’s logistics ecosystem.”

The introduction of the first heavy goods vehicle in Singapore's logistics sector is an exciting development and highlights DB Schenker's dedication to supporting local businesses while working towards a sustainable future.
