Lead and manage the team of Automation Engineers in APAC to execute Engineering, Innovations/Technologies application and Automation adaptation in existing operations, Retrofit and New Business, in order to drive efficient deliverables with commercially viable of business improvement & renewals aligned with organization’s strategy and targets
- Promote, leverage and facilitate the team with replications of best engineering & automation practices across EA Network, as well as address the technologies/automation knowledge sharing to other function teams
- Align with APAC/Global Contract Logistics objectives and targets, collaborate with VP of Solution Design & Engineering APAC, Global Engineering & Automation Leadership, and other functional leads as necessary to define specifications and act as a counterpart to our global supplier partners for automation
- Ensure the correct commercial understandings via trainings to enable EA resources to alter & apply accurate costing, project right business scenarios including P&L simulation, ROI calculation as well as in supporting the Investment applications efficiently.
- Work on strategic imperatives and guide the teams to drive innovation & automation in key operations
- Review, identity and establish training materials for EA resources to ensure the right balance of competency and Product experienced is available, maintained and continually advances
- Identify and drive hiring of key right Engineering & Automation positions in required markets and ensure proper onboarding in place for EA resources are trained with basic competencies are achieved within an agreed timeline.
- Work collaboratively with the Engineering & Automation community to ensure the templates and offerings are correctly deployed to maximize the business success through these products and specific verticals
- Develop, own and improve the Standard Work Framework - ONE Automation for Engineering & Automation APAC, to ensure efficient engineering & automation simulation processes and aligned to the key steps and milestones represented in CLDM. Guide the EA team resources to ensure awareness and compliance.
- Provide a strong leadership in managing and running key automation and engineering projects within the region with systematic approach on guidance to teams to Qualify, Resource and Oversee the Engineering and Automation design process of all warehousing projects in assigned team within Asia Pacific Region which includes the planning, risk assessment, data analysis, material flow, determination of optimal solution concept, detailed solution design, manage automation vendor quotation and investment analysis.
Engineering and Automation for Continuous Improvements:
- Guide and Ensure Engineering Project Tasks:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand the requirements, communicate data requirements and methodology.
- Analyze detailed data to provide processes and workflows determination, position responsibilities and system flows in conjunction with physical material flows, identify tactical recommendations
- Analyze contractual commitments, specifications, performance and other data to plan and develop logistics activities by using knowledge of industrial and/or process engineering, automation, ergonomics, business practices & requirements
- Review the current layout and perform warehouse redesign as needed taking into consideration of net impact
- Conduct time studies and workflow movement measurement analysis to determine the current productivity and cycle times, and hence review the usage of appropriate MHE in relation to product specification, operations requirement, and layout where necessary
- Validate and identify appropriate storage types and methodologies, both in manual and automated solutions, including applications of appropriate Automation and technologies for processes and/storage to increase productivity and/or capacity when applicable
- Diagnose and define potential improvement opportunities and setting the productivity standards for the operations for ramp-up/ramp down scenario.
- Clearly present and demonstrate the impact of designed processes to warehouse design, technologies required, service to customer and all stakeholders.
- Drive project deliverables, presentation of results and recommendations to stakeholders
- Produce cost efficient solution and supply pertinent information to support ROI/MIRR during Investment Application and approval facilitation.
- Provide support our sites and operations with automation experiences sharing/coaching during specification, implementation and testing phases
- Define specifications and act as a counterpart to our global and regional supplier partners for automation
- New Business: Collaborate with Solution Design Teams to support in new business/expansion opportunities requiring Automation via technology check
- Automation: Work on the projects screening and apply strategic imperatives to drive innovation & automation in key operations. Assess the feasibility of applying automation / robotization in customer projects (new and existing businesses)
- Renewals: Work out the strategic plan with functional leaderships to trigger and engage the review of existing strategic operations proactively to support Contract Renewals. Deploy detailed Engineering project when necessary.
- Engineering: Responsible for leading and managing the team on developing solution reengineering for existing customers including nominated projects/tasks from operations and contract renewals via scheduling plan.
- Guide and ensure Engineering Project Tasks:
Collaborate with RDP to establish a transparent and accurate EA Capability & Skills matrix. Translate into the delivery of effective training plans and initiatives, aligned both to the individual’s personal development needs as well as the needs of the business requirements of Engineering & Automation. This includes
- Ensure a systematic process to drive advancement and expertise for EA resources, including but not limited to the development of Individual Development Plan (IDP) for self & teammates identifying personal development and alignment to business needs, and to conduct periodical evaluations of teams’ performance based on their overall team performance and growth targets.
- Act as Engineering & Automation focal point & SME in the APAC and Global EA Leadership.
- Lead, review and promote the development direction, deployment, and continuous improvements of standardized methodologies, tools and templates.
- Develop and conduct training programs and provide coaching directions in areas of industrial engineering and automation to EA Team Leaders as required based on teams’ training/coaching needs which includes but not limited to ONE Automation, PASO and Engineering methodologies and tools
- Bachelors’ degree, in Industrial Engineering / Logistics Engineering / Automation & Mechatronics Engineering or similar.
- Postgraduate degree is preferred.
- Experience in modern warehouse and distribution, supply chain design (automation and other modern warehousing
- innovation (robotics, digitalisation) is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years’ professional experience in Logistics, warehousing or 3PL industries, preferably in an international logistics service environment.
- 10+ years of relevant working experience of solution design/automation/process engineering in the logistics and supply chain industry.
- Stakeholder management experience is required
- Experience in VSM and/or Six Sigma is a plus
- Solid analytical skills with good commercial and technical understanding of Contract Logistics and Warehousing.
- Excellent knowledge and/or extensive experience of logistics automation methods and techniques
- Knowledge on operative IT systems/WMS and automation implementation or worked with automated logistics systems will be added advantage.
- Strong and in-depth knowledge in warehouse solution design; able to develop operationally feasible solution(s) to meet customer requirements.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel functions – VBA/VLOOKUP/PivotTable, and PowerPoint, etc), and knowledge about other Microsoft 365 Apps including but not limited VISIO/Stream/Power BI is a plus.
- Working experience with AutoCAD, CLASS, Sketchup and/or other supply chain design software/tools is a plus.
- Pragmatic financial acumen to optimize both investment level and ROI
- Structured project approach and ability to deliver results on time, on budget, and to the excellent standards.
- Good command in spoken and written English and <local> language; other Asian language(s) is beneficial.
- Excellent organization skills with experience of leading, growing and nurturing a team is preferred.
- Self-starter with positive attitude to overcome problems effectively and able to work under own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Highly responsible, initiative, proactive, and able to coordinate and motivate people and to work as a team under time pressure
- Distinctive intercultural skills and working experience abroad is required.
- Able to travel nationwide and regionally/internationally on project basis as necessary (<20%)
