Supporting India’s Energy Transition: DB SCHENKER Delivers 240 Wind Turbines

Project experts at DB SCHENKER are currently handling an impressive logistics order to support India in developing a reliable and more sustainable energy supply.

A total of 240 wind turbine blades are being transported from a plant in Sheyang, China, to Kandla Port in India for Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology and renewable energy solutions and India’s top wind turbine supplier.

Thorsten Meincke, Member of the Management Board for Air and Ocean Freight: “We are proud to support India’s shift from fossil fuels to green alternatives. India is rapidly developing, and economic growth goes hand in hand with energy production. The provision of 80 wind turbines fosters the creation of both a stable and sustainable power supply.”

The DB SCHENKER team of Global Projects & Industry Solutions takes care of pick-up, export clearance, loading, and unloading, plus ocean freight logistics to ensure the smooth progress of the project. The 240 wind turbine blades are being transported between May and December 2024. The total project volume is more than 274,000 cubic meters and the total weight is 4,600 tons. Each blade measures 76.8 meters in length and weighs nearly 19.3 tons. At 153.6 meters, these wind turbines boast a span that is as impressive in weight as it is in height, reaching the equivalent of 50 elephants stacked on top of each other.

Daniel Wieland, Senior Vice President, Global Projects & Industry Solutions: “DB SCHENKER is a world-leading logistics partner for renewable energy projects. This large-scale logistics project of safely transporting wind turbine blades demonstrates unparalleled project management and technical capabilities of DB SCHENKER.”

The first stage of the assignment saw 17 sets of blades successfully loaded and departed on June 11. This project exemplifies the commitment of DB SCHENKER to supporting a sustainable future. It perfectly balances the support for clean energy with the expertise in complex logistic solutions.
