A Love That Lasts: DB SCHENKER Kenya’s Decade of Support for a Children’s Home
For nearly a decade, the DB SCHENKER office in Nairobi has been a dedicated supporter of the Victorious Joy Children’s Home. Each month, the team comes together to provide food and essentials, contributing more than 21,600 kilograms of supplies through 100 deliveries over the years.
Victorious Joy Children’s Home
Founded in 2007, Victorious Joy Children’s Home provides care, protection, shelter, clothing, and education to children who have been neglected, abandoned, abused, and lost in Kahawa West, Kenya. The home cares for children from infancy through age 18, with some now heading to university — a true triumph and source of pride for Rose, the founder.
Who’s Rose Maina?
Rose, the founder of Victorious Joy Children’s Home, was an orphan who faced numerous challenges, including rejection, and abuse at the hands of her relatives since she was a baby. In her struggles, Rose made a promise to God that once she grew up, she would take care of orphans who were rejected by their families. With the help of well-wishers, Rose started a children’s home, providing food and clothing for the children.
How did it start at DB SCHENKER – what’s the story behind it?
DB SCHENKER Kenya began supporting the home back in 2015 after a former colleague from the Regional Office visited Kenya and mentioned their involvement with a home in Nairobi. Inspired one of the colleagues visited the home and was deeply moved by what she saw. She shared her experience with the team, and what was initially intended as a one-time act of support became a permanent commitment to the Victorious Joy Children’s Home.
“We’ve had a good relationship with DB SCHENKER since 2012. They have been good friends to us and the children. Every time we call them, they always find the time to give to us.”
Charity Day Visit
On the day of the visit, DB SCHENKER Kenya pooled their resources, purchased food and essential items, and organized a trip to the children’s home to deliver the goods.
Although the children were at school, the team was allowed to visit the home, including the bedrooms and kitchen.
“We took it upon ourselves to visit the home and deliver a few items. We're happy to make a delivery that the children will be happy about.”
