    Your Responsibilities

    • Drafting and reviewing various contracts (customer contracts, lease agreements, and procurement contracts) and general terms and conditions related to transport and logistics, ensuring accuracy, risk assessment, and impact analysis for the organization.
    • Negotiating contract modifications with internal and external parties.
    • Providing legal and insurance-related advice to various Business Units (Land, Air, Ocean, Fairs, and Contract Logistics) on all legal aspects within logistics services, including transport law, lease law, purchase law, corporate law, and commercial law.
    • Assessing cases for legal feasibility and advising the Management Board on various complex legal matters, including Corporate Governance and Corporate Restructuring.
    • Supporting other corporate departments such as Finance, Accounting, Compliance, Human Resources, Customs, and Claims in complying with relevant legislation and regulations.
    • Advising internal and external clients on liability within the logistics sector and the corresponding insurance coverage, in collaboration with the head office when necessary.
    • Enhancing legal knowledge and ameliorating legal efficiency within the company.
    • Acting as the main contact person for all communication regarding legal disputes (liaising with bailiffs, law firms, etc.), managing or coordinating litigation, and appointing external lawyers when needed.
    • While you will have significant autonomy in your role, you will work closely with the Supervisor Legal & Insurance Benelux.
    • You participate in projects for the legal or insurance topics

    Your Profile

    As a Legal Counsel, you are not only a gatekeeper but also a trusted business partner for all stakeholders. You provide legal guidance while keeping commercial interests in mind. You thrive on handling a variety of legal and insurance-related matters, staying up to date with new laws and regulations, and advising the Management Board on strategic decisions. You enjoy working with international contacts and finding innovative solutions.

    Additionally, we require:

    • A (Master’s) degree in Law, preferably with a specialization in Transport Law or Commercial Law.
    • Knowledge of Data Protection, Corporate Restructuring, and Corporate Governance.
    • Familiarity with the insurance industry; possession of a Wft Basic + Business Damage Insurance certificate is a plus.
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience as an in-house legal counsel and/or lawyer, with solid expertise in (international) transport and insurance law.
    • Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various logistics contractsand supporting commercial transactions.
    • Fluency in Dutch and English (German is a plus).
    • Strong social and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Customer-oriented, creative, pragmatic, meticulous, diplomatic, and innovative mindset.
    • Flexibility and willingness to work from our offices in Belgium and the Netherlands.

We assess contracts in terms of liability, risks, and insurance, taking appropriate measures or providing alternative contractual solutions to safeguard Schenker’s position. We represent Schenker Benelux in  before authorities, and in dealings with third parties, supporting the organization in its daily operations. This is a diverse and challenging role within an international environment.

    To strengthen our Legal & Insurance team, we are looking for a Legal Counsel. As an in-house counsel, you will be part of DB Schenker’s Benelux legal team and report to the Head of Risk Management Benelux.
