Traffic on the Brenner Pass will slow down early next year due to renovation of the Lueg Bridge
We would like to inform you about important traffic changes on the Brenner highway (A13/E45) in Tyrol, Austria, which will come into effect on January 1st, 2025.
Due to urgent renovation work on the Lueg Bridge, the highway will only be passable in one lane in both directions. This measure is necessary to relieve the strain on the bridge's dilapidated structures and keep the route passable. This was announced by Asfinag, the Austrian state-owned road and motorway financing company.
The renovation of the Lueg Bridge is expected to take several years. The new construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025 and the first bridge structure will be completed in two and a half to three years. However, the bridge is not expected to be fully completed until 2030.
During this time, additional measures will be required, such as road closures and truck bans in the region. These changes could cause significant delays and disruptions to traffic flow.
We are working on mitigation measures to reduce the impact on you and your customers and will keep you informed.
The Lueg Bridge
The Lueg Bridge, built between 1966 and 1968 and extensively renovated since 2002, is the longest bridge (1804 m) on the Austrian Brenner highway A13 (E45). It is located on the Brenner Pass, between Gries am Brenner and the Brenner Lake, next to the Austrian-Italian border. This route from Innsbruck to Verona is one of the most important connections between North and South Europe. The total freight volume on the Brenner Pass is about 55 million tons per year.
