This role sits within the Continuous Improvement team which is part of a broader Operations Excellence Function for the APAC Contract Logistics business that includes Business Architecture, Quality & Compliance, Operations Projects & Implementation. The Continuous Improvement department is focused on achieving operational excellence in operations across APAC through development and deployment of Continuous Improvement (CI) programs to drive cost optimization, workplace organization and positive CI mindset; Operations tools to drive good warehouse practices, efficiency and improvement.

This is a people manager role reporting to the Head of Continuous Improvement, APAC.
The role requires leadership to be shown in Continuous Improvement and driving efficient, effective operations.
The role will drive the development, deployment and project management of CI programs, CI capability building, and tools appreciating the region’s requirements and dynamics. The role will provide strategic inputs to steer the Operational Continuous Improvement function in the region.
The role is to identify, develop and drive deployment of Operations tools that positively impact efficiency and costs which includes Labour Management and MHE Optimization. The role requires the ability to identify digitization opportunities and act on them to improve efficiencies. Change agent to influence and drive lean mindset in the region.
The role is to support APAC markets with operational improvements to ensure that there are no loss-making sites. This could involve on-site support.
The role also involves development of audits and surveillance to ensure deployments and programs meet the required quality.
The owner of this role will be expected to allocate a portion of their time to lead/participate in region wide Operational Excellence projects; Regional travel will be required, and it can be up to 30% of the time.
Specific Accountabilities for this role:
CI Program
- Provide strategic inputs, leadership in the development and deployment of CI Topics, but not limited to 5S, Schenker Operations Standards (OS), XSITE
- Programme management of CI programs in the region
- On site support as required to enable Market Operations Excellence teams
- Conduct surveillance and audits to ensure quality of the required standards of the programs
- For Schenker Operations Standards (OS), lead the development of specifications across the region
- Deploy CI Capability building topics to the region, not limited to problem solving (Kaizen), 5S, VSM and other Lean topics. This will include training.
- Execute DB Schenker Value Stream Mapping (VSM) tool at operations to establish pipeline of improvement projects
- Ensure capture of Improvement projects in the DB Schenker Online platform and facilitate best practices sharing
- Change agent to help regional and market management and operations to adopt lean mindset to drive efficiencies, quality improvement and positive impact to business results
Operations Projects
- Allocate resources to support/be able to support Loss making operations on site (as required) to drive operational improvement to turn around operations
- Regional deployment of Labour Management (LM) program including tools to drive effective labour planning and savings
- Regional deployment of MHE Program to drive MHE safety and cost reductions
- Regional development and deployment of other programs to drive improved warehouse practices, cost reductions in all facets not limited to operating expenses reduction and inventory claims reduction
- Ensure operations adhere to Balanced Score Card (BSC) cadence and adoption
Reporting
- Leverage Business Intelligence (BI) tools to automate Operational Excellence measures/KPIs as per the required reporting cadence
PMO
- When necessary, perform Project Management Office (PMO) function for Operational Excellence projects deployed in APAC
- University or Polytechnic graduate in Logistics and Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business Management or from relevant technical field.
- At least 5 years of operational experience (including P&L) in managing warehouse/distribution operations.
- At least 7 years of CI Framework development and practical implementation experience in CI methodologies and tools with a focus on Lean in a warehouse/shop floor environment and in leveraging digitization . Formal certification is advantageous. Six Sigma experience and certification (Green or Black Belt) is an added advantage.
- Excellent facilitation, moderation and training skills
- Strong Project Management skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders. Project Management (PMP Certified) is an added advantage
- Self-starter with positive attitude to overcome problems effectively and able to work under own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Able to communicate with all levels of the organisation, team player and build strong rapport and credibility within the organization.
- Require hands-on approach, comfortable to navigate ambiguities and manage priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good command in spoken and written English.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Able to travel regionally (up to 30%)
