The Head of Platform Services (m/f/d) is responsible for the global Infrastructure Platform strategy and delivery spanning overall aspects from design, implementation and operations. The infrastructure platform services cover modern IT Platforms, Managed Servers, Storage and middle layer in the cloud, on-prem data centers, and edge compute. The Head of Global Platform Services (m/f/d) manages the transformation form a traditional datacenter provider towards an agile Service provider offering automated and modern DevOps platforms as enabler for value creation of other IT Departments. This role includes the operational provider management of IT platform services sourced from suppliers/cloud. Additionally, this role is accountable for developing the globally spread intercultural team into a high-performing unit by adjusting agile and lean methods.
Your tasks
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for all platform services
- Ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement of data center, platform and cloud infrastructures
- Promote the adoption and utilization of DevOps practices and platforms
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure platform services meet business requirements
- Monitor and manage the budget for platform services
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory policies
- Ensure that all platform services meet or exceed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to guarantee high availability and performance
- Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of platform services
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development, providing opportunities for team members to grow their skills and advance their careers
- Oversee global delivery units in a "follow the Sun" setup to provide 24/7 support and ensure seamless operations across different time zones
- Drive high levels of automation and establish self-service capabilities for other IT departments to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention
- Direct the development and implementation of IT initiatives and ensure improvement processes that impact customer satisfaction, IT efficiency and IT effectiveness
- Lead the change and transformation within the unit and establish measurable individual and team objectives aligned with business and IT&D strategy and goal
- Manage all services, employees, and costs within the unit; provide effective leadership and management to staff, promoting high performance standards both individually and as a team
- Set up and conduct resource planning, allocation of resources for projects and/or services, prioritization of tasks, as well as budget planning, controlling, and activities to keep the unit's budget
Your profile
- Master's degree in related technical/business areas or equivalent work experience
- High stress resistance and willingness to take decisions during normal operation but also during major incidents / crisis
- Typically requires 10-15 years of relevant IT management experience in the area of IT In-frastructure with a very strong focus on operations management
- Practical experience in planning, managing and optimizing operational IT costs
- Leadership experience in managing international cross-functional teams and influencing senior-level management
- High flexibility and willingness to travel internationally
- Fluent in English and German language skills
