This role is responsible for supervising a team that coordinates shipments according to customer instructions (SOP’s) and ensures compliance to DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines. Will supervise the hiring of 3rd party marine draymen, negotiate pricing and execute both pick-ups and deliveries. Supervise team receive and processing work orders received from US operations team to ensure they are dispatched within KPI. Act as a point of contact for internal teams and escalations. Help implement and supervise colleagues responsible for chassis operations. Act as an additional contact for carrier rate disputes as needed. Work with the team to provide solutions in resolving complex transportation issues and inquiries.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
• Responsible for supervising a team handling tasks below. In addition, helping to educate and advise colleagues with the team and the organization on technical and non-technical tasks, compliance requirements and processes associated with marine drayage container movements.
• Oversee and as needed assist/handle dispatch to 3rd party draymen for U.S. International shipment pick-ups and deliveries using internal TMS systems.
• Help sell and execute ocean marine drayage services for FCL movements.
• To investigate and establish responsibilities and accountabilities for service failures
• To oversee pick-ups/deliveries are being conducted on time and internal system and KPI requirements are being met.
• To help streamline transportation communications between internal and external customers
• To help prioritize time sensitive cargo within the team when escalated and monitor TMS system to ensure daily pick-ups and deliveries are tendered to a carrier with KPI.
• To help negotiate pricing as needed with 3rd party draymen to maximize profits.
• Oversee the team is maintaining constant communication with other team members to ensure use of carriers are efficient and effectively used and replying to transportation drayage inquiries
• Ensure proper reporting; carrier invoicing and system event updates are conducted timely and accurately helping the team when raising any issues outside of their immediate control that need to be addressed
• To help maintain carrier database with respect to providers, rates, expiration dates
• To assist with ocean product goals to eliminate risk (cost exposure) as much as possible.
• To ensure compliance with DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines.
• To perform other duties as assigned.
Details/Specification/Explanation of the role specific skills
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in Logistics
• 3 - 5 years of experience in customer service
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Knowledge of import/export transload operations
• A general understanding of ocean export/import operations and budgeting exercises
• Experience in carrier deliveries/recovery process and terminal port/CY requirements
