DB Schenker Successfully Completes Complex Inter-Island Transport
DB SCHENKER in Indonesia has recently completed a challenging transport operation, moving telecommunications equipment to Halmahera, Maluku, and Merauke, Papua. This project showcased our ability to navigate diverse terrains and manage complex logistics.
We provided value-added services that set us apart, such as grouping materials at our cross-dock before delivery to the site. Our delivery operations handled two types of materials: new and used. We began by picking up used materials from two separate warehouses. Once both types of materials arrived at our cross-dock facilities in Halmahera or Papua, we grouped them according to specified points. With everything organized, we then proceeded to deliver the materials to the site.
The journey to Halmahera began at our customer’s warehouse. The equipment was loaded onto CD6 trucks and transported to the port, where it was placed into containers. Upon reaching the destination port, the cargo was transferred to 4WD (four-wheel drive) vehicles for the final leg of the journey. These vehicles transfer power from the transmission to both the front and rear axles, which can be beneficial during muddy, snowy, rocky, and other difficult driving conditions. The rugged terrain required the use of an excavator for the last stretch. This entire process took seven days.
For the Papua route, the operation started similarly at the warehouse. The cargo was again loaded onto CD6 trucks and transported to the port for containerization. The final delivery to Merauke involved navigating challenging terrain with 4WD vehicles, and manual handling was necessary to manage the difficult conditions. This journey spanned 25 days.
The detailed route to Halmahera included stops in Makassar, Ambon, and Ternate before reaching the final destination. For the Papua route, the cargo traveled through Makassar, Ambon, and Timika before arriving in Merauke. Both routes required careful planning and execution to meet the project deadlines.
This project covers 58 destination points in Maluku and 32 in Merauke.
