On November 5th, volunteers from DB Schenker travelled from Jakarta to a small village near Bogor to help with the construction of a new home for a young family who was in need of a proper house. On November 5th, volunteers from DB Schenker travelled from Jakarta to a small village near Bogor to help with the construction of a new home for a young family who was in need of a proper house. To get there, the volunteers had to drive for half an hour and walk for 15 minutes along a rocky dirt road.
For the house construction, DB Schenker worked with Habitat for Humanity, a global non-profit organization working in local communities across more than 70 countries worldwide. To date, Habitat Indonesia has served more than 93,000 families through housing, market development, water and sanitation, and open defecation-free programs.
The Schenker volunteers, including members of the Indonesia management team, appreciated the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of a young family. Working alongside the future homeowners, everyone put a lot of hard work in the construction project.
The volunteers prepared the construction site and poured the cement for the foundation. Indonesia’s Country CEO, Victor Lim, helped to mix the concrete.
The construction activities were supervised by housing experts of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia. It was an unforgettable experience for everyone. The volunteers expressed their gratitude to elevate the lives of others and witness the happiness of the homeowners.
“This is an exciting project, as I have never worked on the construction of a new home. I am doing small things that matter to others. We can all help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” ― Nur Adicty, People & Organization
“I am glad that our organization takes action and helps to build healthier and better homes in this part of Java, which is close to our warehousing site in Sentul.” ― M. Fadilul Ridha, Contract Logistics
This is DB Schenker’s second CSR project this year in Indonesia. The first project, mangrove restoration and coral regeneration on Pramuka Island, was held in July 2022 together with NGO Sebumi. Both projects are part of Indonesia’s 150 years anniversary campaign.
