Sort, analyze, and minimize CO2 emissions

What is the CO2 footprint of a single shipment?

You need a lot of data to find out the exact number of emissions. Starting with weight and distance, up to the produced emissions of the truck, vessel or plane you are shipping with. Receiving, sorting, and analyzing all this information takes time. The German start-up, nxtlog, offers software to measure Scope 3 emissions and minimize transportation-related emissions.

The Scope 3 emissions are responsible for about 70 – 90 percent of a company’s overall emissions. Therefore, it is important to know how much CO2 is produced from the overall value chain. This will become more and more regulated over time. Starting in 2025, France, for example, will implement a fee of 3000 Euro for each missing transport emission report. nxtlog wants to help solve this problem in 3 easy steps. The user inserts different possible transport data, the software cleans and analyzes it, and then presents a complete overview of the CO2 emissions per shipment.

    Sustainable Solutions

Knowing what emissions a supply chain causes is one thing, to draw the proper conclusion is another. To help a company reach a more sustainable business model, nxtlog will do more than just analyze data sets. Based on the results, the customer will receive recommendations on how to lower CO2 emissions and optimize their supply chains. Customized solutions for the individual value chain begin from switching to the best transport mode, over to using biofuels, until implementing electric trucks into the supply chain.

    Data-Security

nxtlog is a spinoff of DB SCHENKER’s innovation arm’, Schenker Ventures. The start-up benefits from the experience of the logistic service provider but will remain an independent company committed to high-level data security. The data transfer will only happen between nxtlog and its customer. To guarantee the best possible integration in existing processes, the software will provide different formats for the best possible connection to excel and other software programs like SAP or Project44.

    Use cases

Every company has a different amount of Scope 3 emission, depending on its business model and industry. In general, the financial sector has a higher percentage of Scope 3 emissions than, for example, the utility sector. But, as we have heard in the beginning, the share of Scope 3 on the overall emissions is very high. So, every industry, every company, and every supply chain has its saving potential. Over and above the logistics industry, software solutions like nxtlog offer support to all companies, independently of the size or industry.
