SIMS: A Passwordless Journey
In today’s interconnected world, companies increasingly grant their customers, partners, and employees access to internal applications and databases through intranets, extranets, and the Internet. While this accessibility is essential for collaboration and efficiency, it also introduces significant challenges in ensuring data security and identity management.
The Challenge of Managing Digital Identities
Managing digital identities is a double-edged sword. On one hand, organizations need to control who accesses what applications, for how long, and for what purpose. On the other hand, traditional identity management methods involve extensive administrative efforts and create a frustrating user experience due to the need to remember multiple passwords. A streamlined and well-structured identity and access management infrastructure can significantly enhance security, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
Introducing SIMS: A Unified Approach to Identity Management
Enter SIMS – a game-changing solution that simplifies identity and access management while reinforcing security. But what exactly is SIMS? If you are unfamiliar with the term, you are probably not alone. The SCHENKER Identity Management Service is a centralized digital identity hub that provides a single user profile for employees, partners, and customers worldwide. With a unified username (SIMS ID) and password, users can seamlessly access various SIMS-enabled Services within the IT ecosystem through a single sign-on (SSO) and federation authentication.
“I have witnessed firsthand the successes of our journey to passwordless authentication. Our ongoing enhancements reflect our dedication to providing secure, user-friendly access from our identity and access management service.”
Strengthening Security While Enhancing User Experience
Security and usability often seem like opposing forces, but SIMS proves they can coexist. Through role-based access control, authentication, and automated user profile updates, SIMS ensures that employees, partners, and customers, only gain access to the applications they genuinely need.
What’s new in SIMS?
With ongoing improvements driven by user feedback and evolving industry standards, the sign-in experience to the IT applications of DB SCHENKER has already evolved – and even more changes are on the way.
Secure by Default
The default sign-in method will now prioritize security while remaining intuitive. Instead of presenting a list of login options, customers will enter their SIMS ID or email, triggering a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) sent to their email for verification. Other sign-in methods will remain available under “Try another way.”
Advancing Towards a Passwordless Future
The traditional reliance on static passwords is fading. SIMS is taking the next leap by expanding biometric authentication across all modern mobile devices, Windows, and Apple computers. Once biometrics are configured, they will become the default login method, offering both heightened security and improved convenience.
“The commitment of DB SCHENKER to identity-centric security has been instrumental in safeguarding our supply chain operations. Their continuous support and innovative solutions have made our collaboration both secure and efficient.”
A Continuous Journey Towards Secure and Seamless Access
As DB SCHENKER evolves, security and usability remain at the core of its development. The latest changes reflect an ongoing commitment to ensuring a best-in-class authentication experience while addressing emerging security challenges.
The journey is one of continuous improvement.
