Frank enjoys the freedom of the highway
Frank, Truck Driver
Frank, a qualified professional truck driver, has logged about 5 million kilometers behind the steering wheel during his career.
Frank has worked as a truck driver since 1984. He started his career at a freight forwarding company in Hannover, which has been part of DB Schenker for several years. Even as a child, Frank accompanied his father — who was also a truck driver — on the road. "My career aspiration has always been clear," he says proudly.
Good rhythm with a lot of variety
Frank drives about 140,000 kilometers a year, mainly to the Rhineland or southern Germany. He appreciates the variety of routes and flexible working hours. "I often see the sunrise or sunset, which is particularly nice when driving a truck," says Frank, whose work week usually starts on Sunday evening.
Most of the time, he drives from Hannover to the south of Germany. On Monday night, Frank returns and his colleague takes over. From Tuesday until Wednesday night, Frank drives again and his final shift is from Thursday until Friday night.
"The best capital a logistics company has is a reliable and loyal truck driver"
Every tour on schedule
Frank is still highly motivated and strives to complete every job as planned. “Always being on time with the customer is very important to me, so I plan buffers and even change the route at short notice,” he says. Only when the last freight has been loaded can Frank really enjoy his meal break.
His ambition is spurred on by the fact that he earns good living and that there is a great deal of team spirit within the company and among its employees.
"I am not a number; I’m recognized as a valued member of the team and personally recognized for my efforts."
Frank is also very satisfied with his work vehicle, an Actros 2245 from Mercedes. The truck’s odometer just jumped to 835,000 kilometers. “At 700,000 kilometers, a new clutch was needed,” he says. “Otherwise, it’s an absolutely reliable vehicle.” The only thing he sometimes misses is the adventure of the European tours to Portugal or Sardinia that he used to drive.
Time for leisure
Frank’s work is very compatible with his private life. Happily married for 27 years, he enjoys spending time with his wife at a lakeside campsite where the couple has a holiday home.. Frank hopes that he will stay healthy and fit enough to continue enjoying both his work and personal life for years to come. "I would like to go on like this until retirement".
