What do you like most about working in IT&D in logistics?
Even though I am a dummy when it comes to tech, exploring system functionality to cater for on-going business requirements is a big driver for me.
How would you describe your professional background and career journey?
Including these 23 years with DB Schenker, I have a total of 33 years of freight forwarding expertise. I started out as a junior secretary learning the ropes of the freight industry and now, I’m the Head of Service Management & Support. I’ve had many different positions throughout DB Schenker, from Sales to Operations and now with IT&D.
What has been your biggest professional challenge and how did you overcome it?
Leading a global team of 60 people where only two were in the same location. Communicating and chatting via MS TEAMS is the best platform for a virtual team — we keep everyone in the loop, updated, and we can share our knowledge.
What aspect of your current job have you found most surprising or unexpected?
I never expected my business knowledge and experience to be such a key factor in my current job.
Why would you encourage women to take on a career in IT&D in logistics?
Don't run away from opportunity! Go for it! You will be surprised.
Thank you, Joycelyn, for giving us insights into your tasks and responsibilities at DB Schenker’s IT&D department. You’re proving that there is a place for women in this business. It’s such an inspiring story and we hope it encourages more women to take advantage of opportunities in IT&D.
