Political industrial actions continue after Easter
The Finnish Transport Workers' Federation (AKT) has announced to continue industrial actions involving stevedores and some other groups of port-related workers. The industrial actions will be extended until Monday April 8, 2024 at 06:00. The industrial action will therefore also affect DB Schenker's export and import transports.
We will do our best to keep our production running and transport all shipments as far as possible even during industrial actions. However, we may experience delays in our transports, and in addition, the transport time guarantee included in the DB SCHENKER system premium product cannot be offered in either of these directions. We will prioritize products that are important to society, such as medicines and food.
Land Transport – Export and Import
The exceptional arrangements and reroutings resulting from industrial actions cause additional costs for our production. To cover these costs, we have been using the exceptional situation surcharge since March 11. The indefinite exceptional situation surcharge is in use for all DB Schenker land transports entering or leaving Finland. In addition, our customers should be prepared that it may take several weeks to clear congestion and return to completely normal situation.
Ocean Freight
The industrial action will also halt the unloading and loading of containers in ports, which will delay our ocean transports. LCL Ocean Freight shipments can be exported by alternative routes. In addition, FCL Ocean Freight export shipments can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
Please contact your DB Schenker sales contact as soon as possible if you need exceptional arrangements for your ocean shipments.
Land Transport – Domestic
The industrial actions so far have had no impact on our domestic transports. However, as the transport and distribution of fuels is affected by the strike actions, the situation may have local impacts on the production of our transports. We will monitor the situation throughout the industrial action.
