Our Commitment to Indigenous Relations Matters to Us

Reaching the Committed level in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) certification process reflects our dedication to building meaningful, respectful, and sustainable relationships with Indigenous communities across Canada. Together, we are committed to making a positive impact and fostering reconciliation — because creating lasting partnerships that honor Indigenous voices matters to us.

Our PAIR certification process evaluates the approach of DB SCHENKER to building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities, whose involvement in our projects is steadily increasing.

The PAIR certification process inspires us to continuously enhance our practices, ensuring Indigenous representation is better reflected across our projects, branches, contract logistics sites, and offices. We are dedicated to the four key pillars of the certification: leadership, employment, business development, and community engagement, which form the foundation for fostering meaningful and lasting relationships.

    • "Our commitment to the PAIR certification reflects our pride in contributing to reconciliation and the shared prosperity of Indigenous communities and First Nations in the transportation and logistics industry and beyond." Dalibor Gavric - Director P&O Sustainability and Employer of Choice Americas

    • "DB SCHENKER is proud to stand as the first freight forwarder in Canada to pursue this designation, and as such sends a strong message to both our customers and our business partners that we are committed to making a lasting, positive impact in the communities in which we operate."Hannah Connolly - Project Manager - Global Projects & Industry Solutions

    • "It is important to acknowledge and partner with Indigenous communities not to just check a box, but go above and beyond in making Indigenous Peoples welcome at DB SCHENKER. Taking this first step towards PAIR certification is an active step in the right direction to fostering long lasting relationships with Indigenous communities. I am proud and honoured to be a part of this process."Davinder Sallan - People & Organization Manager

A Closer Look at the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB)

Dedicated to integrating Indigenous Peoples into the Canadian economic landscape, the CCIB stands as a beacon of commitment and dedication. As a national, non-partisan association, its core mission is to provide a wealth of knowledge, resources, and programs to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous owned businesses. Their objective is to pave the way for sustainable economic opportunities for Indigenous individuals and businesses from coast to coast. Those interested can learn more by visiting www.ccab.com.

The PAIR certification from CCIB is no ordinary acknowledgment. With over 200 corporations partaking, this program serves to validate the efforts companies make in Indigenous relations. Only those companies that have undergone stringent independent certification, ensuring they are actively fostering valuable and lasting relationships, get the nod. This effort aims to ensure that wealth is generated for Indigenous businesses and communities, reflecting a mutually beneficial relationship that goes beyond mere business.

As part of the PAIR certification process, we have established a dedicated working group that brings together employees from various business units, functions, and regions across Canada. This team consists of individuals with experience or a keen interest in collaborating with Indigenous communities, allowing us to better align and coordinate our efforts.

The mission of the working group is to successfully guide the certification process, with a focus on continuous internal reflection to refine our methods and explore new, innovative approaches.

Our commitment remains strong in contributing to the growth and prosperity of Indigenous Peoples within the industry and in nearby First Nation communities. Achieving the PAIR certification is one important step towards realizing this goal.
