Major EV automaker Geely enters end-to-end Australian parts logistics partnership with DB Schenker
Geely plans to launch its new EX5 to the Australian market in 2025. It has appointed DB Schenker to handle end-to-end contract logistics for spare parts and EV battery storage
Geely Auto Australia has appointed global logistics and supply chain leader, DB Schenker as the brand’s Australian third-party logistics partner for parts.
With this partnership, Geely is preparing to enter the Australian market, with the launch of the Geely EX5 in the first half of 2025 by securing a seamless ownership experience and swift spare parts availability.
“DB Shenker will provide an industry specialist understanding of spares right from the get-go, so that Geely can have an optimised solution, tailored to the Australian market, to meet their rigorous quality and customer service goals,” says Craig Davison, CEO, DB Schenker Australia and New Zealand Cluster.
“With our leading presence in the automotive logistics industry in Australia, DB Schenker is able to provide expert insights and assist with Geely’s entry into the local market,” says Davison.
“A keystone of Geely’s business strategy is providing top levels of customer service, backup, and spare parts availability, and it was clear they wanted this consumer value to guide their Australian launch,” he adds.
DB Schenker will be responsible for end-to-end contract logistics, from the moment the container arrives at the port, through clearance, delivery, warehousing and on to distribution nationwide.
Geely Auto is a technology-focused automotive manufacturer, with the group’s subsidiaries and joint ventures including brands such as Volvo, Polestar, Proton, Lotus, and Smart.
Mr Li Lei, Head of Geely Auto Australia, says, “Customer satisfaction is a key driver for Geely at a group level. We have a legacy of high-quality service that filters through all our brands, and Geely Auto is excited to bring this superior experience to the Australian market. The partnership with DB Schenker will provide our customers with the confidence that any parts required will be readily available without the need to wait for lengthy importing processes to enjoy the cars they have chosen.”
Flexibility to scale
Part of DB Schenker’s contract logistics solution for Geely will utilise warehouse space in Truganina, Victoria, with readiness to scale to additional SKUs as Geely expands its presence in Australia. DB Schenker will be responsible for EV battery storage as well as spare parts.
“Geely has ambitious plans, and they needed a solution that could readily scale as their business expands. DB Schenker was able to provide local knowledge and expertise to help Geely choose the right auto-based storage solution, the right plant, and the right technology to best enable scalability in the future,” says Davison.
“A key consideration is to look at the right data connectivity and interfacing solutions to make storage, retrieval, and distribution as streamlined as possible,” he adds.
Mr Li Lei says, “Another important aspect for us was to ensure we are selecting a long-term partner to support our commitment to Australia. DB Schenker has shown an appetite to grow with us as we bring new models to the market and are ready to provide the scalability we need in a partner to deliver our brand promise of a high-quality brand experience across all customer touchpoints”.
Sustainability
As a leading global EV manufacturer, Geely places a strong importance on adhering to sustainable activities, which aligns with DB Schenker’s sustainability strategy.
DB Schenker’s sustainability strategy focuses on investing in innovative low-carbon land, air, and ocean freight solutions, while improving resource efficiency in its warehouses. By doing so, DB Schenker also support its customers’ ambitions to establish sustainable supply chains. Together with its partners, DB Schenker is exploring the technologies which will enable the clean logistics of the future. In addition, DB Schenker is forging new partnerships to create a circular economy through reverse logistics, to keep materials and components of all kinds in a continuous and sustainable cycle.
“DB Schenker looks forward to delivering a seamless national parts logistics strategy to Geely, enabling them to meet key customer service, sustainability, and efficiency outcomes in Australia,” concludes Davison.
