Celebrating the Unstoppables
In the Celebrating the Unstoppables series we take a moment to acknowledge the work of some of our unstoppable team.
DB SCHENKER’s Facilities team works hard to deliver new projects that best meet customer needs within tight deadlines and budgets. Two of the leaders in this team are Jason Grech, National Manager – Facilities, and Steven Yudodihardjo, Operations Excellence – Facilities.
New storage solution a win-win for customer
One challenge the Facilities team came across was a customer storing large industrial vinyl rolls in stillages in a pyramid configuration, up to 4m high. This set-up was causing defective damage to the material, due to the weight pressure of the rolls being on top of each other. It also created a configuration with poor picking accuracy due to mixed inventory storage.
The Facilities team designed and developed a new storage solution to store individual rolls, each with unique locations and batch management, thereby reducing the overall storage footprint of the warehouse. The new configuration was 9m high and not only eliminated the defective material issue, but also significantly improved the picking and inventory accuracy.
Healthcare customer gets a cool solution
New healthcare regulations meant that one customer required a purpose-built temperature controlled room to store their pallets. The Facilities team built this room to their requirements, and also reconfigured part of the facility with a retrofitted 1,200 sqm cool room with full height capabilities up to 10m – all within a three month time frame!
Two more happy customers
Two customers received outstanding service from Jason and Steven. The first was a spare parts warehouse that was custom fitted out to meet customer requirements, and was built with on-site security, inventory management, value added services, and sustainability measures in place.
In the second project, Steven and Jason repurposed previous equipment to automate and sort outbound parcels and suit specific customer needs. The result was cost savings to the customer, and improved accuracy in sortation.
Dynamic environment
Jason and Steven both enjoy the challenges of working in a dynamic environment with diverse needs. They aim to deliver safe, efficient, and practical working solutions, as well as provide optimal warehousing and storage that reduces waste and improves flow efficiencies.
They also ensure that all facilities are BCA (Building Certificates Australia) compliant.
Being empowered and trusted to achieve the best results has led both of them to long careers with DB SCHENKER.
Role expansion
Both Jason and Steven have been with DB SCHENKER for more than 17 years, with Jason starting just three months earlier than Steven. Jason has held roles such as National Operations Manager, and National Implementation and Re-engineering Manager. Steven has held roles such as Technical Project Manager, and Project Manager.
Both agree that there is a feeling of immense satisfaction when a customer is happy with a completed project, and sees even more ongoing benefits and efficiencies than they first realised.
